In August 2022 National Opera presented an Opera Gala with featured artist Eleanor Greenwood and associate artists Emma Mauch and Hannah Carter. The concert featured Eleanor Greenwood and local associate artists Hannah Carter and Emma Mauch, and the National Opera Chorus all accompanied by the National Capital Orchestra under the baton of Louis Sharpe. The chorus master for the concert was Dan Walker. The chorus performed a range of famous opera choruses including:
> Pagliacci (Leoncavalla), Bell Chorus;
> Lohengrin (Wagner), Bridal Chorus;
> Il Travatore (Verdi), Anvil Chorus;
> Cavalleria Rusticana (Mascagni), Easter Hymn;
> Nabucco (Verdi), Va Pensiero;
> Madama Butterfly (Puccini), The Humming Chorus;
> Die Fledermaus (J. Strauss), Champagne Chorus.
Add to this, stunning arias such as Pace, pace mio Dio from La Forza del Destino, Richard Strauss’ sublime trio from Der Rosenkavalier as well as the Intermezzo from Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana and more,it was a night for lovers of opera or those wanting to put their ‘toe in the water’ and sample this glorious art form.
Together with the National Capital Orchestra under the baton of Louis Sharpe, the National Opera Chorus of approximately 50 locals led by chorus master Dan Walker performed some of opera’s most famous choruses and LIFT THE ROOF of Llewellyn Hall.

Eleanor Greenwood is a graduate of London’s Royal Academy of Music Opera School and Australian National University School of Music, and first prize winner of the McDonald’s Operatic Aria. She made her professional debut in Ireland at the Opera Festival in Wexford. In the UK and Ireland Eleanor sang for various companies including Grange Park Opera and Dorset Opera Festival, and returned to Wexford Festival Opera in various roles.
A recent Richard Divall Emerging Artist, Eleanor currently holds the position of Associate Artist with Melbourne Opera. She recently made her debut in the role of Sieglinde in Wagner’s Die Walküre.
A diverse soprano, other recent roles include Ortlinde in Die Walküre, Dama in Verdi’s Macbeth and Annio in Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito (with National Opera) directed by Peter Coleman-Wright and conducted by Dane Lam.
Eleanor has sung the soprano solos in Handel’sMessiah at Brisbane City Hall and Mozart’s Requiemat St Andrew’s Cathedral. Concerts include Opera by the Lake (Childers), Music on Sundays (QSO), Opera in the Paddock (Armidale), Mozart by Moonlight (Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne), Opera in the Park (Boroondara). Eleanor has toured Chinese Poly Theatres in opera and concert productions.
In 2022, Eleanor joined the Young Artist Program at Opera Queensland (OQ) singing as a soprano. Most recently, she performed in the QPAC Concert Hall season of OQ’s The Sopranos with Queensland Symphony Orchestra, and toured throughout Queensland with the production.
Hannah is a Canberra based soprano whose voice is “soaringly beautiful” (Stage Whispers). With a passion for all things voice, Hannah holds both a Bachelor of Music (2016) & a Masters of Speech Pathology (2018).
Hannah’s stage exprience includes Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi; Canberra Opera), First Lady (DieZauberflöte, National Opera), First Knabe (Magic Flute, MCM), and ensemble in Cavalleria Rusticana (Canberra Opera), The Flying Dutchman (Melbourne Opera) and La Clemenza di Tito (National Opera).
Hannah was a young artist with Opera Scholar Australia (2017 – 2019) where she held the ‘Jamie and Prue Parish’ Scholarship, was a semi-finalist in the OSA Aria and was freatured at events including Opera in the Alps and Opera in the Market.
Emma Mauch, Canberra born and based soprano, is a graduate from the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts where she performed the roles of Helena in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Madame Lidoine in Poulenc’s Les Dialogues Des Carmelites and Angela in the Australian opera Love Burns by Graeme Koehne.
Emma has performed in numerous operatic productions within Australia and the United Kingdom. Her productions with the West Australian Opera chorus include, Peter Grimes, Carmen, Madama Butterfly and Aida. In 2013 she had the pleasure of working with Grange Park Opera, Hampshire in their summer festival productions of I Puritani and Onegin.
Since returning to Australia, Emma has worked with Opera Australia in their productions of Madama Butterfly (2015) and Carmen (2017) She is thrilled to be working with National Opera in her home town.
